Pizza burn or pizza palate came to be widely used as a medical term. It’s an official (or semi-official) term to describe characteristic burns to hard palate (roof of mouth) or tongue. Pizza burn term is used by serious medical education textbooks (example: A Clinician’s Guide to Dermatologic Differential Diagnosis by Paul Schneiderman, Marc Grossman), scholarly articles since 1980s, and medical schools.
